Various Info
Aahhh... My monthly post. *snicker*
I actually get tomorrow off. It's a Thursday and I will be off. I don't even have to go into work for a couple of hours. It's been weeks since I've had a weekday off. But now I'm getting used to the money... oh no! I'm addicted.
Outside the kids are having a waterfight... sort of... The two big kids have the hoses and my daughter is running between them. Oh! Now they've switched it up.
I have flowerbeds this year... with actual flowers in them. I planted most of them myself. Well, except for the lilies my neighbour gave me...
Neighbour-given Lilies
and the sunflowers the squirrels kindly planted for me at the front of the beds!! They aren't in bloom yet, but they are going to be huge!
A newly aquired taste: Lager and Lime... mmm beer with lime.
Latest obsession: Band of Brothers. I highly recommend the series to anyone with any sort of interest in WWII.
We are scheduled for a gig tomorrow night at the Backstage Lounge on Granville Island. I plan on having a good time, whooping it up. My friend Kels is back from tree-planting for a bit and said that she'll come out. I hope she does. She's right fun!

Pink Dye Post
Sometimes I don't post for a while and then I remember that I have a blog and have to come and check to see if it's still here. And it is. Hooray. Now 'ere is my update:
Last weekend I went to a women's retreat up in Whistler. I've never actually been there before. It's beautiful. The kind of beauty that I just want to eat... too bad you can't. I wonder if we'll be able to eat beauty in heaven... I think that I would like that. I bet that it would be better than chocolate. I know, hard to imagine. Anywho, I got to spend the weekend with some great women just getting to know them better and feeling the love.
As far as the band goes: Our manager, Dawn, has given us her notice. :'( She'll be moving on with her own career/school at the end of the summer. I guess we'll just have to really enjoy the last few months with her to the fullest.
I may have mentioned that we were heading of to Lethbridge, Alta. for a spot on the Miracle Channel. We didn't. We had to cancel; the shows weren't coming together to make the trip worthwhile. No biggie. Maybe another time.
We are in a music competition called Emergenza. We've gone through two rounds so far and come out on top both times. We feel really great about that. It's nice to win every once in a while! Now we have one more Vancouver show with them, June 1, and the winner of that goes to Calgary. Cross your fingers! Or better yet come out and support us! We need your vote!
If we don't make it to Calgary we will still have quite a few shows to do in June. It's turning out to be a great summer already.
As far as my family goes:
Autumn is just finishing up grade two. My how the time flies. She's turning eight on May 23, this coming Tuesday. We are going to have a tea party birthday party. It should be fun. All the little girls dressed up in their fancy dresses... so cute!
Ken started his new job at the beginning of April. It is still in the computer industry but out of the security side of things. I think that he likes that a lot better. I'm not-so-secretly hoping that he gets a company vehicle so that I can have the use of the car during the week - especially when the rain comes in November.
But why am I thinking about rainy November? It's been beautifully summer since Friday. Nice and hot - just the way I like it. Bring on the golden skin!! I have a huge deck this year and I plan on using it. Aren't we old? We're dreaming of owning patio furniture!! And that's Ken too LOL!
As for me: I've been working more and more and more. Not that I'm up to full time or anything, but my boss is relying on me for more hours while he trains a couple of new girls. I'm hoping that we'll be able to afford for me to work a little less during the summer while Autumn isn't in school. That always gets really complicated.
Well, I'd best go and rinse the pink dye out of my hair and get on with my day off! Cheerio!!!

Sun Run 2006
We stood in line for an hour waiting to go, and I still hadn’t decided what to do. Then when it was our turn to go, we all took off running. As we ran down the first stretch I was already ahead. Now was the time to make the decision. “Should I stay or should I go? Da-na-na-na-na-na!”
I did the Sun Run yesterday – A very Vancouverite thing to do – and for the first time in my life, I tried a 10KM mini-marathon.
I started with four others, my neighbour and her friends, all around the age of 45. My neighbour, who I had been training with throughout the winter, had a messed up foot and had to take it really easy. I was torn, should I stay with her or take off and see what I was made of. I even asked Ken that morning and he suggested that I stay with my friends – at least that’s what he would do.
I knew that my neighbour was okay with me going for it, so at the last minute I decided to. I wanted to see just how far I could jog. As the km signs started to add up I challenged myself to go for the 5km mark.
At the 5km, I thought to myself, "Everything after this is bonus!"
At the 7km I was like, "Oh crap, this is going to be hard, but I want to see if I can jog the whole thing!"
At the last water station, halfway between 8 and 9km, I stopped slightly to get some water and then I felt the reality of my legs. My knees had been hurting and the muscles where my legs join my hips at the front were sore. I was hoping that I wouldn’t be one of those crazy people who don’t know when they’ve had enough and don’t finish because they collapse on the course. I made the choice - I had to walk. As I walked, I started to feel better and decided that I would continue walking to the 9km sign, even though dozens of people were jogging past me. At the 9km sign, which was halfway up a hill going onto a bridge, I restarted my jog. At the crest of the bridge I saw the finish line and the swarm of people in front of me. As I got closer some athletes turned on the juice and sprinted for the finish line, not me, I continued at my slow jog and crossed the finish line 73 minutes and nine seconds after I started.
There was no one there to greet me, other than 50,000 people that I didn’t know. And then I realized, I have no cel phone and no way of contacting Ken to meet up with him. Scarey! I got my wits about me and heading back to watch the end of the race, hoping to meet up with my neighbour. Which I did - everything was alright.
When I went to the bathroom and saw myself in the mirror I looked grey. It’s a great look, you should try it sometime! LOL. I totally know that I gave it every once of energy and perseverance that I could. Needless to say, I am really, really proud of myself!!!!

2006: A Year for the Fulfillment of Dreams?
I got a new guitar yesterday!! I'm so happy. It sounds nice and warm and full.
I had to replace the black Rickenbacker; it belongs to someone who has been graciously letting me use it for the last three years or so. I’ve never loved the sound of the Ric but the look, I love – it is so hot rod.
The funniest thing about getting my new guitar is that I got what I no longer wanted. I used to want an orange Gretsch so badly when I first started playing, then, after awhile, my taste changed and I looked at other guitars. Now, years later, I own that orange Gretsch.
It's weird when you have a dream and let go of that dream, only to have it fulfilled years later. It makes me feel like it must have been 'meant to be', like God put it into my being to want that guitar just so He could give it to me.
At the risk of sounding prophetic here: I think that this is a year for fulfillment of dreams - old dreams, dreams that have died or that are dying/fading.
I've already seen it happening - for myself and for others.
It will be interesting to look back on this year and see how many dreams have been fulfilled.

Sacred Space
I've been curious about meditation for about the last year. Lately this curiousity has led me to an attempt at meditation and a realization that I could really get into this. I've been longing for Deep Silence. I believe this is one of the keys that will lead me down that path to the inner peace that I've longed for. The Deep Silence is a place in which I listen and God speaks... or doesn't (that would be up to Him).
If you are interested in meditation, also known as listening or contempletive prayer, there is a web site that helped get me started - Sacred Space. I hope that it will help you obtain the peace and Deep Silence that you are looking for.

Whew! It's been a long time... I've been working four days a week now and my one day a week I tend to be off being a social butterfly or getting chores and errands done. Today is my day off and I'm suffering (not too greatly) from a cold. I thought that I'd just lay low and get some much-needed rest, catch up on my computer stuff and have some good old Alone Time. Aaaah it's so great. As an extrovert, I never used to think that I needed alone time, now I get it so rarely and the house is almost never empty, that it just feels so great to be at home alone. SO peaceful. Ahhhhh... that's me sighing in contentment. I honestly don't want to go and pick up my daughter from school. I don't want to go for a walk in the windy chilly air. It's so grey out. I wish that it was sunny. I love blue sky and yellow sunshine.
A couple of Sundays ago SSE decided through prayer and discussion that we will be going on a small tour this May. We were invited to go and tape an episode on The Miracle Channel in Lethbridge, Alta. It's a big step of faith for our band, but we are very firm in our conviction that Jesus has asked us to go. If you feel led, pray for us, that we will make the connections that we need to make and for the finances to come in that we will need to do this. Thank you, Dearest Friends!!!
